Amidst the intensifying Central Continent War, the Zenebas Empire developed the gorilla-type Zoid in ZAC 2032, based on the slogan of “Defeat Gojulas.” A heavy armored close-combat attack type.
Under the secret orders of the Zenebas Emperor, it was developed in a hidden factory by a project group. The design placed emphasis on close-quarters combat, and due to its human-like body type, it demonstrated high performance even in jungles or urban battles where heavy weaponry was less effective. Although it conceded to the specialized Gojulas in hand-to-hand combat, in terms of bombardment capability it overwhelmed Gojulas. By equipping three types of missiles, Iron Kong required no rear support and brought an end to Gojulas’s invincible era. In addition, special alloys that were lightweight yet sturdy were introduced into the armor so as not to hinder nimble movement. With heavy armor and all-weather capability, it could fight almightily, earning it the reputation of being a “versatile machine.”
Compared to the ill-tempered and difficult-to-control Gojulas, Iron Kong was designed for easier handling. Its wild instincts and vitality were restricted, and computer control created a standardized operating system. Furthermore, the parallel twin-seat cockpit allowed division of roles between pilot and gunner, making operation easier. In addition, it could operate regardless of terrain or weather. Its high performance, multi-purpose capability, and operability were all well balanced at a high level, and among pilots with experience in the previous great war it was highly regarded as “the greatest masterpiece of Zoids.” It also bore the nickname “Trump Card of the Empire.”
Around ZAC 2047–2048 during the Central Continent War, it retired from the front lines. Later, at the outbreak of the Western Continent War, it reigned as the strongest Zoid of the Guylos Empire at the time of opening hostilities. In the opening battle of the Western Continent War in ZAC 2099, it overwhelmed the Republic forces in the battle for Mount Olympos.
Iron Kong in "ZOIDS concept art
In this setting, it is depicted as a high-mobility assault Zoid remodeled from a rare species, specializing in hand-to-hand combat and clearing paths with rotary cutters mounted on its arms. In addition, concept art also depicts versions of Iron Kong equipped with missiles.
Armament and Equipment
(Note: “(Old)” refers to the naming during the Central Continent War through the First Intercontinental War (1st series); “(New)” refers to the naming during the Second Intercontinental War (2nd series).)
Six-Barrel Heavy Missile Launcher (Old) / Six-Barrel Anti-Zoid Missile Launcher (New)
A mid-range missile on the right shoulder with a range reaching 50 km. Among the weapons equipped on Iron Kong, the shoulder missiles in particular possessed effective power against Gojulas through close-range salvos. In close combat, it was used after being transferred to the arm. In the HMM version of Iron Kong, this weapon is referred to as the “Anti-Zoid Six-Barrel Missile Launcher.”
Missile Magazine (Old)
Installed above the Six-Barrel Heavy Missile Launcher (Anti-Zoid Six-Barrel Missile Launcher).
Missile Pod (Old) / Ten-Shot Self-Guided Rocket Launcher (New)
Equipped on the left shoulder. Capable of firing ten missiles simultaneously, it had an annihilation effect against enemies in close-range combat. In the HMM version of Iron Kong, this is referred to as the “Shoulder Missile Pod” and is equipped on both shoulders.
Long-Range Surface-to-Surface Missile (Old) / TVM Twin Tactical Ground-to-Ground Missile (New)
Equipped on the back. With guidance systems, the range reached up to 200 km, expanding the operational theater of Iron Kong.
Auxiliary Energy Tank (Old)
The backpack of Iron Kong.
Large Laser Searchlight (Old) / Composite Sensor Unit (New)
Equipped on the forehead. It conducts searching through infrared rays.
Iron Hammer Knuckle (New)
The fists of Iron Kong. Both arms contained built-in auxiliary engines, demonstrating power in close combat.
Exhaust Ports (Old)
Equipped on the sides of the shoulders.
Intake Ports (Old)
Located on Iron Kong’s nose. In the HMM version of Iron Kong, this is described as a “Ventilator.”
Elevator (Old)
Installed in the left chest.
Bite Fang
A piece of equipment established in the HMM version of Iron Kong. Fangs within the oral cavity that serve both in close combat and for carrying weapons.
Kits (Models)
Tomy (Takara Tomy) Version There are two battery boxes: the abdomen requires two AA batteries, and the back requires two AA batteries. Later, with the overseas release “ZOIDS2,” the abdominal battery box was changed to one C-cell. The missile warhead tips were changed to a flattened shape, and kits produced thereafter followed this specification. The front batteries handled walking and sound effects, while the rear batteries handled light-up effects. The power switch is located on the rear waist, and when switched on, the machine walks by moving all four limbs while shaking its head side to side, and the rear-mounted twin missile launcher rotates counterclockwise. After walking for a while, it emits a roar, and the lights embedded in the eyes illuminate. This was the first Zoid to introduce sound effects (other Zoids with roars include King Gojulas, Gojulas Giga, Mugen Liger, Bio Tyranno, Bio Tricera, Bio Kentro, Bio Volcano, and Bio Megaraptor). The base frame was reused later for Deadly Kong. Since the limb armor was made as separate parts from the frame, full removal was possible, and it could still walk properly even in a skeletal state. The molding colors were: clear red for the eyes, a slightly bright black and red for the body, and green for the caps.
Manual gimmicks included:
The right-shoulder missile launcher had a firing mechanism; inserting missile rounds into the magazine and operating the rear switch would fire them by spring action.
The left-shoulder ten-shot rocket launcher could open and close.
The cockpit hatch could also open and close.
Although classified as an extra-large class model, it used the same rubber caps as the lower-class Red Horn.
EPZ-02 Iron Kong Released September 1985.
Limited Edition Iron Kong Mk-II Released October 1986. Added weapon parts to Iron Kong. A limited product commemorating the 3rd anniversary of Zoids.
Iron Kong Mk-II Mass Production Type Released June 1987. Added High-Mobility Booster Pack runners to Iron Kong. In 2005, it was reissued as part of the Toys Dream Project alongside Gojulas Mk-II Mass Production Type, but with motor units of the newer series.
EZ-015 Iron Kong Released October 1999. Color changes: green eyes, metallic black body with dark red, and gray caps.
Iron Kong Proitzen Knights Contents were the same as Iron Kong Mk-II Limited Type, but colors were changed: frame and weapons in silver, clear green eye parts (instead of clear red), and the caps reversed from green to red. Sold only in its first run. The large beam launcher included with this machine was otherwise unavailable, making this or the Mk-II Limited a rare and highly sought item for modification.
Iron Kong Yeti Released December 2002. Identical to the Mk-II Mass Production Type except for different molding colors.
Iron Kong (Karl L. Schwarz Version) Released January 2009. A special item commemorating the 10th anniversary of the anime. The launcher part was replaced with gatling parts, but unlike the Van-type Shield Liger, it did not include a Schwarz figure. Also, the rear triple cannon was not included; to fully reproduce the anime machine, parts from Red Horn had to be reused.
Notes Around 2002–2003, at hobby shows and in magazines, a gorilla-type Zoid following Iron Kong called “Iron Kong Evoluzione” was displayed as a reference. It was a radio-controlled concept model capable of walking, drumming, and punching actions.
REALIZE MODEL RMZ-009 Iron Kong Guylos Colors Scheduled release November 2025. Part of a 1/100 plastic kit line focusing on movability, ease of assembly, collection value, anime reproduction, and realism. Features:

HMM (Highend Master Model) Series
Iron Kong
Series Entry #15.
The molding colors, instruction-specified color scheme, and decals represent the Guylos Empire specification.
Package art depicts a scene with many of the same units and Morgas in the background, after multiple Command Wolves have been crushed.
To maximize gorilla-like characteristics, articulation of the limbs has been greatly increased, enabling a drumming pose.
The fingers are articulated, with every joint movable.
The big toe of the feet has a swappable option piece to strengthen bipedal stability, but even the normal part allows reasonably stable two-legged standing.
Unique HMM arrangements:
An opening jaw with sculpted teeth and tongue has been added.
The upper and lower lips are deliberately designed not to touch, leaving the teeth exposed.
The mid-range missile launcher above the right shoulder is connected to the backpack by a swing arm and can be stowed on the back (and also mounted on the left shoulder).
An additional missile pod has been installed on the right shoulder to match the left.
Kotobukiya also released a D-STYLE series version, which came with Rosso and Viola figures.
Iron Kong Schwarz Version

The energy-tube section uses a belt-link system with lead wire to connect plastic parts as an energy cable.
The beam launcher is a reuse from Dark Horn Harry Special.
The booster pack, previously described as capable of flight in the Tomy version, is here designed so that the entire rear unit (including beam launcher and backpack) can separate and transform into a heavily armed support fighter.
Limited bonus: clear red version of clear parts for purchases through Kotobukiya official online shop and flagship stores.
Iron Kong Yeti
* Released June 2020. * Includes all the option parts listed above. * Color scheme changed. * Cockpit allows choice of single-seat or twin-seat type. * Gatling gun and beam launcher can be mounted on either side of the booster pack.
In-Story Appearances
HISTORY OF ZOIDS
In ZAC 2038, during the Battle of Lake Wilson, Republican reconnaissance units encountered Iron Kongs deployed along the ridges of the Central Mountains. Shocked, they reported, “The mountain moved.” Ten days of relentless combat followed.
In Zoids Battle Story
The Iron Kong first appeared in Zoids Battle Story Vol. 1. In ZAC 2032, an Iron Kong destroyed a Gordos on reconnaissance duty, then crushed the Republic’s forward base on the Central Continent border. Demonstrating its all-weather capability, it launched an attack during a violent midnight storm, breaking through the border fortifications. Soon after, large numbers of Iron Kongs invaded through the Central Mountains into Republican territory. Salamanders were shot down by heavy bombardment. On the plains, a large-scale battle erupted between 200 Gojulas and 150 Iron Kongs. The Iron Kongs launched repeated missile salvos, but even under fierce fire, the Gojulas pressed forward and closed the distance. When the Iron Kongs shifted to close combat, they were outmatched and overwhelmed. The Iron Kongs were eventually driven off, and while the Republic claimed victory, losses were immense: 140 Gojulas destroyed against 100 Iron Kongs. Though victorious, the Republic’s damage was heavier. As a result of this costly battle, in ZAC 2033 the Republic began improving the Gojulas, leading to the birth of the Gojulas Mk-II.
In ZAC 2035, Iron Kongs again appeared, intercepting Republican infiltration of Imperial bases.
In Zoids Battle Story 3 (December, ZAC 2044, Cook Naval Base), Franz Hartmann, his disciple Schmidt, and the young Prince Rudolf piloted Iron Kongs. When Republican forces launched an ambush, Rudolf and Schmidt’s Iron Kongs were surrounded. Both were destroyed, crushed beneath the feet of the Ultra Saurus.
In Zoids Battle Story 4 (October, ZAC 2048), modified Iron Kongs equipped with handheld missiles appeared. They were stationed in fortresses blocking the approach to the Republican capital and were called “Devils on the Tower.” Mad Thunder sortie destroyed both the fortress and the Iron Kongs.
In Zoids Official Fanbooks
In Zoids Official Fanbook 2 (September, ZAC 2100), a number of Iron Kongs were annihilated by the overwhelming firepower of Ultra Saurus The Destroyer. In Zoids Official Fanbook 3 (July, ZAC 2101), Iron Kongs guarding an Imperial outpost were annihilated when Liger Zero Panzer unleashed its “Burning Big Bang.” In the same volume, Leni K. Sylvester’s Iron Kong was destroyed by Eisen Dragoon. In Zoids Official Fanbook 4 (October, ZAC 2101), Iron Kongs, Saber Tigers, and Hellcats together formed a Guylos Imperial mountain corps. At the Trim Highlands, they engaged Republican defenders, and after two days of combat, 85% of the Republic force was wiped out. In November of the same year, during the Valhalla Rebellion, normal Iron Kongs were destroyed by Iron Kong PK.
Anime
In Zoids (1999), Iron Kong first appeared in episode 19. It was piloted by Major Markus (under Karl L. Schwarz), Rosso, and Viola of the Desert Alcorbaleno. Although the model kit cockpit was a tandem two-seater, the anime often portrayed them as single-seaters.
In Zoids Fuzors, Iron Kong engaged Gojulas Giga piloted by Commander Gummie. Initially it held its own but was eventually defeated. Later, it was shown poorly, serving as a test subject against Pierce’s Energy Liger and Blade’s Gairyuki. Its weaponry matched the Schwarz Custom variant.
In Zoids Genesis, Iron Kong did not appear. The role of “gorilla-type Zoid” was effectively filled by Deadly Kong.
Games
Iron Kong appeared in the Zoids VS series in multiple versions. In Zoids Struggle it was sluggish but powerful in both melee and ranged combat. In Full Metal Crash it was distinct from Deadly Kong, with unique traits. In Zoids: Central Continent War it appeared in normal, limited, and purple original versions—the purple variant being the strongest non-Deathsaurer enemy. In Zoids 2 both limited edition and mass production types were included. In Zoids Legend it was playable for the first time. It also appeared in Zoids Apocalypse. In the PlayStation game Zoids: Teikoku vs Kyouwakoku – Mecha Biometal Gene, Iron Kong was available, and with cheat mode one could even start with an extra “Freeze Gun.” In Zoids 2: Republic vs Guylos Empire it appeared again. In Zoids Infinity it was available from the start and later could be equipped with a charged particle cannon similar to Geno Saurer’s, though at about one-third the power. In Zoids Material Hunters it appeared in Concept Art-style form; although arm rotary cutters were mentioned in the lore text, they were not shown in the in-game model. Color variations included “Forest Drum” (camouflage) and “Snowflake” (snow camouflage). In Zoids Field of Rebellion both Iron Kong and Iron Kong PK appeared as mid-sized playable Zoids, with designs based on model kits rather than concept art.
Manga
In Zoids: New Century/Zero (Mecha Beast New Century Zoids), Schwarz’s custom Iron Kong appeared twice. Later, a missile-equipped variant also made an appearance. Ultimately it was destroyed by Raven’s Berserk Führer.

High-Mobility Booster Pack [40] |
This variation was developed during the Central Continent War by Imperial spy-command officer, Lieutenant Colonel Echo, to defeat the Ultrasaurus [41]. Classified as a modified heavy-armored melee attack type [40]. While the Zenebas Empire possessed an excellent team of engineers, its industrial power and resources lagged behind the Republic, meaning that new development of giant Zoids would strain production [42]. Also, due to lack of time to create new designs, this strengthened version of the Iron Kong was made [40]. Data gathered from the earlier Yeti Kong and Space Kong prototypes was incorporated, with a cold-environment life-support system installed in the abdomen [42]. Compared to the normal Iron Kong, this model improved both firepower and mobility [41]. Although boasting high performance, it had production issues, so a simplified equipment version was mass-produced instead [43]. By around ZAC 2047–2048 of the Central Continent War, it had retired from the front lines [20].
Armament and Equipment
Large Beam Launcher Mounted on the right shoulder. Works in coordination with the large laser searchlight to achieve high accuracy, and is capable of destroying a large Zoid with a single shot [41].
Twin Electromagnetic Cannon Mounted on the left arm. While its range is short, it is capable of striking medium-class Zoids [41], proving effective in both close combat and support fire [41].
High-Altitude Anti-Air Missiles Mounted on the back. This equipment, with the Salamander as its assumed target, uses heat-seeking guidance. Designed to perform a preemptive strike before detection [41].
4-Barrel Missile Pod Mounted above the twin electromagnetic cannon.
Laser Light Mounted on the left shoulder. Effective for target acquisition and detecting enemies [41].
Infrared Light Mounted directly above the laser light. Infrared light for night vision [41].
High-Mobility Booster Pack Mounted as a backpack. Not only does this maintain the same speed as the normal machine, but the two projecting high-mobility wings allow attitude control from any position, providing high mobility that allows immediate transition to attack [41][note 12]. This pack also makes independent flight possible [40].
In-Story Activity
In ZAC 2037, Lieutenant Colonel Echo of the Imperial spy-command conceived the Iron Kong Mk-II, which was later officially adopted. At the northernmost point of the Central Continent, the extreme-cold Zabriskie Point, it cornered the Ultrasaurus and Lieutenant Thomas’s Gojulas Mk-II Limited almost to the point of destruction, but in a single moment of opening, it was destroyed by the cannon of the Gojulas Mk-II Limited [45].
In the Battle for the Almehen Bridge in ZAC 2042, Colonel Robat’s Kong Mk-II unit also defeated the Republic’s Cannon Tortoise forces [46][note 13].
Designation
The name “Iron Kong Mk-II Limited Type” was used in the “Official Zoids Fan Book” [47]. In the force comparison table in “Zoids Battle Story 3” it is recorded as “Iron Kong Mk-II (Limited Type)” [48]. In “Battle Story” Volume 1 and the kit package, it is called “Iron Kong Mk-II” [45] (or “Iron Kong Mark II” [40]).

This machine simplified the weaponry of the Iron Kong Mk-II Limited Type from the standpoint of productivity [43]. Classified as a heavy-armored melee attack type [43]. In ZAC 2046 of the Central Continent War, it was active as the command machine of the Zenebas Empire’s Type Mk-II unit, accompanied by the Great Saber, Black Rhimos NEW, Deathsaurer Mk-II, and Brachios NEW [50][note 14]. After the fall of the Zenebas Empire, it was also used as a Zoid of the Guylos Empire (Dark Army) in the First Intercontinental War [21].
Forest Warfare Special Unit 5th Central Area Mass Production Specification
A variation published on the Iron Kong Mk-II Mass Production Type product package. Designed for fighting in forests, prioritizing mobility, with camouflage painting applied [43].
38th Northern Area Unit “Aurora Rock”
A variation published on the Iron Kong Mk-II Mass Production Type product package. A type painted white for camouflage in cold region warfare, with reinforced heaters to suppress performance decline from cold [43].
Designation
The name “Iron Kong Mk-II Mass Production Type” was used in the “Official Zoids Fan Book” [47]. In the force comparison table in “Zoids Battle Story 3” it is recorded as “Iron Kong Mk-II (Mass Production Type)” [48]. In the kit package, it is called “Iron Kong Mark II Mass Production Type” [43]. In addition, within the “Zoids Battle Story” itself, it is sometimes written simply as “Iron Kong Mk-II” [52].
In-Story Activity
In the Zoids Battle Story school magazine version, it appeared as the command machine of the Zenebas Empire’s Mk-II unit, leading Deathsaurer Mk-II, Great Saber, Black Rhimos, and Brachios NEW. It launched a dawn surprise attack against the Ultrasaurus [52].
In another story, it broke into a Republican secret factory leading Black Rhimos NEW and Brachios NEW. While it destroyed Bear Fighters and Cannon Tortoises, it fell into a pitfall, from which the Mad Thunder appeared. Driven back by the “Mad Thunder Typhoon” unleashed from the Magneisers (described in the story as Thunder Horns) of the Mad Thunder [53].

The flagship unit of Marshal Günther Proitzen, regent of the Guylos Empire, belonging to his personal guard, the Proitzen Knights (commonly called the PK Division). Through the PK Division’s authority, special modifications were permitted [56], and the powerplant was reinforced, resulting in increased base output [54]. With the installation of the High-Maneuver Booster Pack, maximum speed was also raised by 20 km/h [54]. Its red armor and the secret-police-like nature of the PK Division gave it the nickname “Bloody Kong” [54], and its combat strength is said to be more than three times that of a normal unit [54][56]. Thanks to its high mobility, it could even engage in melee combat with high-speed Zoids [30].
HMM (Highend Master Model) Version
In this setting, the Guylos Empire, having unearthed the Organoid System and its technology, had been reproducing and adjusting old Zenebas Empire Zoids even before the outbreak of the Western Continent War. Alongside the mass-production Kong line, a separate line was dedicated to this version. It was adjusted over a long period, built upon a Zoid core capable of a 1.5× power gain, with boosters and stabilizers enabling high-mobility, three-dimensional combat; high-output, rapid-fire optical weapons; composite carbon-and-titanium armor and anti-energy coating that could not be implemented on mass-production units. With Proitzen personally selecting only elite pilots, the PK Kong’s overall combat capability is said to have reached 2.5 times that of a mass-production unit [57].
Armaments and Equipment
Beam Launcher Equipped on the right shoulder. A large-caliber beam cannon linked to a laser sight, providing high accuracy [56]. The same type of weapon as the large beam launcher of the Iron Kong Mk-II Limited Type.
AZ Anti-Air Missiles Equipped on the back. This gave the machine superiority against flying Zoids such as the Storm Sworder [30]. Same type of armament as the high-altitude anti-air missile.
Twin Pulse Laser Gun Equipped on the hardpoint of the left arm as a close-range weapon [56]. In the Iron Kong Mk-II Limited Type this was an electromagnetic gun, but here it is replaced with a laser gun.
Power Cables One runs from the right chest to the beam launcher, another from the left chest to the twin pulse laser gun.
4-Barrel Grenade Launcher Mounted above the twin pulse laser gun. Same type of equipment as the 4-barrel missile pod on the Iron Kong Mk-II Limited Type, but in this unit it functions as a grenade launcher.
Laser Sensor Mounted on the left shoulder, same type as the laser light of the Iron Kong Mk-II.
High-Maneuver Booster Pack Mounted on the back, same type as the high-mobility booster pack of the Iron Kong Mk-II.
Vernier Stabilizers Equipped on both sides of the High-Maneuver Booster Pack. These improve the machine’s maneuverability [54].
Appearances in Story
Battle Story In the second full-scale battle of the Western Continent War in July, ZAC 2100, the unit piloted by Major Hannah Hanna was dispatched to raise morale. It single-handedly broke into the Hellic Republic’s Rob Base, cornering the Republic forces who were packed into shelters like sardines, but was defeated by the overwhelming power of the activated Gojulas the Ogre [58].
During Proitzen’s coup that gave birth to the Neo Zenebas Empire in 2101, they participated as main machines of the old Zenebas faction. At Valhalla, the Guylos capital, they annihilated the Guylos regular army’s reserve forces, but under the subsequent fierce assault of the Hellic-Guylos allied forces, the PK Division—including this unit—was completely annihilated without any surrenders [36].
Anime Appeared in Zoids: New Century / Slash Zero, episode 9. Team Champ members deployed in formations of two Iron Kong PK and two Iron Kong PKMS. In the anime, these were referred to as “PK specification.” Harry Champ piloted one, preventing the Liger Zero Jager from closing in melee, and even capturing Rinon’s Gun Sniper with his bare hands, but was finally defeated by Schneider’s Buster Slash.
Harry and his group also entered the Royal Cup with this machine. During battle, one protected Rinon from the aftershock of the Berserk Führer’s Charged Particle Cannon, being heavily damaged in the process.

Manga Its first appearance was in the webcomic Zoids: Imaginary War Chronicle – The Bewitching Snow Mountain. At the end of ZAC 2101, a Republic unit consisting of Liger Zero Panzer and König Wolf encountered a machine accompanied by a girl bearing the mask symbolizing succession to the Zenebas throne [64]. In this webcomic, its right shoulder weapon was depicted as a gatling gun, and the backpack’s vernier stabilizer was also shown with a different design [66][Note 15].
Battle Story During the Valhalla Uprising of November ZAC 2101, it engaged the Iron Kong PK [36].

A custom Iron Kong exclusively for Guylos officer Karl Lichen Schwarz. It first appeared in the anime Zoids: Chaotic Century, and also features in the manga Zoids: New Century as well as the Zoids Battle Story.
The chest and shoulder armor were replaced with red reinforced plating [71][Note 17]. Among the National Defense Army’s Iron Kongs, it is the only one with combat power comparable to the Iron Kong PK [62].
The name “Iron Kong SS” is used in Official Zoids Fanbook 2 [62] and the Zoids Battle Card Game, with SS standing for Schwarz Special [72]. Other sources use “Iron Kong (Schwarz Custom)” [65], “Iron Kong (Karl L. Schwarz Custom)” (TakaraTomy 2009 release), or “Iron Kong Schwarz Custom” (Kotobukiya 2013 release) [70].
Armament and Equipment Variations
Equipment and loadout differ depending on medium and episode.
In some versions, the right shoulder mounts a belt-fed beam gatling gun instead of mid-range missiles, and the back tactical missiles are replaced with Red Horn’s triple linear cannon. This reduces long-range firepower but strengthens close/mid-range combat [71]. This configuration appeared in Zoids: Chaotic Century (episodes 13 and 34) and the Battle Story.
In the Zoids Battle Card Game, Fanbook 2 illustrations, and Zoids Saga 2, it is also shown with Iron Kong PK’s dual pulse laser gun and quad grenade launcher mounted on the left arm.
In the Zoids: New Century manga debut, it appeared with the standard Iron Kong armament (shoulder 6-barrel missile launcher, twin tactical missiles) [73].
The TakaraTomy 2009 toy did not include new backpack parts, so only the beam gatling and beam launcher were added, with the tactical missiles unchanged. In the manga, a variant with only the beam gatling on the shoulder and the tactical missiles on the back also appeared [74].
From episode 38 onward in the anime, a Mk-II version appeared with loadout similar to Iron Kong PK and Mk-II Limited. This form is known as the Iron Kong Mk-II Schwarz Custom [75][76].
Role in the Story
Battle Story Appeared during the Western Continent War [54] and the retreat to the Dark Continent [77]. In November ZAC 2101, during Prozen’s uprising, Schwarz’s Kong ambushed the Bloody Deathsaurer alone via hidden passage, disabling it and saving Rudolf’s Saber Tiger Gold [78].
Anime Debuted in episode 13. Unlike in the Battle Story, the gatling gun was shown as powder-based. It easily mowed down sleeper Guysacks, participated in the climactic battle with Deathsaurer, and even tore off its own arm to jam the enemy’s leg joints.
Manga (Zoids: New Century) First appeared in Porto City with standard Iron Kong equipment, where it repelled civilian resistance (Godos, Cannon Tortoise). Later, it fought Raven’s Geno Saurer, losing an arm. On reappearance, it had a shoulder beam gatling and fought the berserk Death Stinger, but was badly damaged due to the overwhelming difference in power.
Yeti Kong
Affiliation: Zenebas Empire Classification: Gorilla-Type
Total Height | 17 m [79] |
---|---|
Weight | 210 t [79] |
Appearing in Zoids Battle Story Vol. 1, the concept for this unit was devised by Spy Command Echo [42]. It was developed alongside the Space Kong as a cold-climate prototype [42].
The backpack was equipped with a life-support system allowing it to function even in extreme cold [42], and also stored the special gasses used in its various cryogenic weapons [80]. From its rear unit extended large shoulder-mounted fans, which expelled -40°C winds to freeze enemies in place [80][42]. For close-range combat, it could be fitted with a wide-angle beam gun and even boomerang-shaped weapons [80]. Its right arm could also mount a dedicated freezing cannon that fired liquefied gas at -200°C, instantly locking enemy Zoids in ice [80].
The cold-environment prototype was developed because Echo anticipated a decisive battle against the Republic’s Ultra Saurus at the polar region known as Zabriskie Point [42]. Data from the Yeti Kong and Space Kong prototypes was later integrated, culminating in the development of the Iron Kong Mk-II (Limited Model) [42]. In that process, the large backpack-mounted life-support system of the Yeti Kong was miniaturized and relocated into the abdominal section [42].
Space Kong
Affiliation: Zenebas Empire Classification: Gorilla-Type
Total Height | 17 m [81] |
---|---|
Weight | 230 t [81] |
Appearing in Zoids Battle Story Vol. 1, the Space Kong was developed as an experimental prototype alongside the Yeti Kong [42]. This unit was designed for space-transit operations.
Equipped with a backpack that housed thrusters and a right-side laser cannon, the Space Kong could also be fitted with a large rocket booster on its back [80][note 18]. With this configuration, the unit was capable of ascending into orbit, then traveling through space using its onboard space maneuvering system. After reaching the skies above its target, it would initiate a controlled descent, using reverse-thrust from the boosters to land [42]. Through this method, the Space Kong could reach any point on Planet Zi in under 20 minutes [42].
The concept originated with Spy Command Echo, who envisioned a decisive confrontation against the Republic’s Ultra Saurus at the polar region known as Zabriskie Point [42]. The technical knowledge gained from the Space Kong’s development was later applied to atmospheric flight systems, and its experimental data was ultimately combined with that of the Yeti Kong. Together, these results led to the creation of the Iron Kong Mk-II [42].
Bronze Kong
Affiliation: Zenebas Empire Classification: Gorilla-Type
Appearing in Zoids Battle Story Vol. 2, the Bronze Kong was outwardly indistinguishable from a bronze statue of an Iron Kong, placed in front of the Zenebas Empire’s royal palace. However, it was secretly a fully functional Zoid, designed to automatically activate should the palace ever come under threat [82].
In-Story Appearances
During the Defense of the Zenebas Empire Capital in ZAC 2039, the Bronze Kong activated in response to the crisis. Despite its surprise nature, it was ultimately destroyed by the main cannon of the Gojulas Mk-II (Limited Model) [82].
