Overview
The Guysack is a scorpion-type Zoid developed by the Helic Republic at the beginning of the Central Continent War[39]. The development base was an 80 cm living organism that was enlarged by biotechnology[40][注 8]. It was also remodeled from the Granchula, and equipped with laser claws, stabilizers, and a tail that functions as both a weapon rack and weapon mount[39][41].
While it was heavily armed, its armor was weak. Its tactic was to rely on stealth and destroy enemies before being discovered[39]. From the early to mid-Central Continent War, it achieved significant results through desert ambush attacks[39].
Two types existed: Normal Type and Heavy Armor Type, each with different equipment[39][注 9]. By ZAC 2044–2046, it had retired from the frontlines[47].
Even after the Planet Zi Great Catastrophe of ZAC 2056, Guysacks survived and continued to be used by the Republic Army. Although its design philosophy was old, and its combat ability was inferior compared to the stealth ambush specialist Stealth Viper, its long history resulted in many variations, including a fully automatic Sleeper type. It was still in active service as of ZAC 2099[39][注 10].
Armament & Equipment
- Poison Jet Spray (Old) – Equipped on Guysack’s right claw.
- Sulfuric Acid Jet Gun (Old) – Equipped on Guysack’s left claw. Together with the Poison Jet Spray, these weapons were based on the natural ability of the original creature to fire venom[48].
- Long-Range Gun (Old) – Tail weapon of the Normal Type. A small-caliber gun[39].
- Great Launcher (Old) – Mounted on the back.
- Beam Cannons (Old) – Mounted on the back of the Normal Type.
- Wire Launcher (Old) / Smoke Discharger (New) – Back-mounted. In the Central Continent War version it was a wire launcher, but in the Second Intercontinental War version it was replaced with a smoke discharger.
- Power Generator (Old) – Mounted on the back[38].
- Laser Claws (New) – Located on the claws. A weapon that slices through enemy armor using lasers[48]. Guysack’s specialty is to hide in the desert, evade attacks in a low stance, and use this weapon and its tail gun for close-range strikes[39].
- Energy Tank – On the Heavy Armor Type, replaces the back-mounted beam cannons[39].
- Laser Fangs (New) – Equipped in the mouth.
- Anti-Zoid 30mm Beam Rifle (New) – Tail weapon of the Heavy Armor Type, replacing the Long-Range Gun.
- Radar – Equipped on the tail of the Heavy Armor Type[49].
Kits
Takara Tomy Version Powered by a small wind-up Power Unit. The pincers and tail move manually. Like Granchula, it walks by swinging four legs (technically two pairs) on each side. It is a compatibility kit between the Normal Type, which used the common cockpit of the early small Helic Republic Zoids, and the Heavy Armor Type, which featured radar and a new cockpit. The heavy armor parts are shared with Godos. Because some parts were reused from Granchula, it can be assembled into a shape similar to it, but since the eight legs were newly made, it cannot be completely reproduced. In the old series it was included as one of the Heavy Armor Specials.
RMZ-11 Guysack Released in 1984. Mold colors were roughly: legs in dark bluish gray, tail and heavy armor parts in navy blue, and canopy in clear orange. Some early misprinted products existed with “RMZ-002” printed on the top of the package instead of RMZ-11.
RZ-002 Guysack Released in August 1999. Mold colors were desert-themed ochre overall, with a fluorescent clear red canopy. In this version, the Heavy Armor Type was presented as the standard mode of Guysack on the package. It was also released overseas by Hasbro under the name #002 Gusak.
Monthly Zoids Graphics Vol. 6 – Helic Republic Ambush Combat Beast Guysack Released in June 2008. This was a reissue of RMZ-11 Guysack.
HMM Version – RZ-002 Guysack Released in July 2024. Mold colors are the same as the Takara Tomy version, but both the Normal Type and Heavy Armor Type can be selected. The cockpits were newly sculpted for each, and the Normal Type’s beam gun, Heavy Armor Type’s tank, center unit, beam launcher, and aiming radar can be rearranged. Unlike the Takara Tomy version, the Heavy Armor Type no longer has the tail gunner seat.
In-Story Activity
Battle Story
In ZAC 2038, when the Republic invaded the Empire’s capital, Guysacks were tasked alongside Godos units with eliminating Imperial soldiers who were hiding in the city. Some also participated in urban combat, where they were intercepted by the modified Iron Kong known as the Bronze Kong[50].
During the Western Continent War, Sergeant Indigo Lambert and his unit remained hidden in the sand for 72 hours, eventually ambushing and destroying a Saber Tiger[44].
Anime
In *Zoids (Chaotic Century)*, the Helic Republic Army used unmanned Sleeper Zoids for guard duty and constructing defensive lines.
In *Zoids: New Century/Zero*, they appeared in episode 12. A Backdraft Group Warrior piloted one to battle Liger Zero, which had been stolen from Bit Cloud. However, the match ended prematurely when Liger Zero forcibly ejected the Warrior from its cockpit.
In *Zoids Fuzors* episode 6, numerous green Guysacks belonging to the Bone Family, a band of thieves based in the Junk Zone, appeared.
Manga
In *Kijū Shin Seiki Zoids*, as in the anime, Guysack played the role of creating the encounter between Van and Zeke.

This designation was used when it appeared in *Official Fan Book 2*[54]. In the *Zoids Battle Card Game*, it appeared under the name Guysack StS[51].
In-Story Activity
Appeared in episodes 23–25 of the anime *Zoids: Chaotic Century*. It was first seen before Metternich and the others under Proitzen, as Stinger’s machine, and later lent to him. It ambushed Van, but the cockpit was forced open and the machine was seized.
Guysack Worker
Affiliation | Helic Republic / Civilian |

Classification | Scorpion-type |
A modified Guysack that appeared in episode 37 of the anime *Zoids: Chaotic Century*. It was remodeled for securing marching routes and for civil engineering work, and was active in both civilian and military roles.

Pilot | Bull |
A Guysack that appeared in episode 1 of the anime *Zoids: Chaotic Century*[55]. The machine’s body color was primarily blue, and its canopy was fitted with window frames. It was piloted by Bull of the Desert Alcobaleno, but since it was verbally described as a captured wild Zoid, it does not appear to have been customized specifically for him.
By chasing the protagonist Van through the Elemia Desert, it served as the catalyst for Van’s encounter with his partner, Zeke.
Guysack Kai
Affiliation | Helic Republic |
---|---|
Classification | Scorpion-type |
Appeared in *HISTORY OF ZOIDS*. The tail-mounted Long-Range Gun was replaced with a manned 76mm laser gun turret. The claw-mounted Laser Scissors were also strengthened, allowing it to destroy enemy armor and then use venom spray to attack the pilot. This tactic was said to have wreaked havoc on the battlefield[48].
Guysack Maurice’s Custom
Affiliation | Helic Republic |
---|---|
Classification | Scorpion-type |
Pilot | Lieutenant Maurice |
Appeared in *HISTORY OF ZOIDS*. The tail-mounted main gun was replaced with a needle-shaped weapon, and the body color was changed to desert-use light khaki. Because its pilot, Lieutenant Maurice, possessed a special detection ability, the machine was modified with minimal equipment to strengthen mobility[48].
