A dragon-type Zoid of the Guylos Empire military, developed as a flying Zoid following the Gil Vader in the final stages of the First Intercontinental War. It utilized a wild specimen native to the Dark Continent [33][Note 7]. It possessed a variable system allowing transformation between flight form and ground form depending on circumstances, enhancing both mobility and firepower [32].

Initially, like the Gil Vader, it was planned to be equipped with a Beam Smasher, but for improved productivity it was instead fitted with a Hyper Charged Particle Cannon via the dorsal Power Connector [33]. In addition, it carried powerful armaments such as a flamethrower. Across its body, it employed a composite armor of “Ice Metal,” granting it defensive strength of an entirely different dimension compared to other aerial Zoids [33].

Alongside Gil Vader, it opposed Republic elite Zoids such as Orudios, and together with Sieg Doberman and Ice Blazer it formed a division known as the Dark Corps, primarily tasked with defending the imperial capital, Darkness. However, the wild species it was based on became extinct during the Planet Zi Great Catastrophe in ZAC 2056, as with many Zoids, and thereafter its production technology was lost [33].

Armament / Equipment

Hyper Charged Particle Cannon Connected via the dorsal Pulse Cannon. Possessed the power to destroy a Gojulas in a single shot [35].

Pulse Cannon Gun Mounted on the Power Connector. Originally developed for the Sieg Doberman, capable of destroying super-hardened enemy armor by firing several hundred pulse rounds per second [36].

Flamethrower Mounted in its mouth.

Triple Impact Gun Mounted in the abdomen.

All-weather 3D Radar Mounted in the horns of Gun Gyarad.

Ice Metal Protector The silver armor fitted across the body of Gun Gyarad, featuring a special coating with Dioharycon vapor-deposited on its surface. Thanks to the properties of Dioharycon, it could reflect beams and lasers [33].

Gull Wing The main wings of Gun Gyarad.

God Tail The tail of Gun Gyarad.

Power Connector Connector for grade-up units. On Gun Gyarad, the Pulse Cannon and Hyper Charged Particle Cannon were mounted here.

Kit (Gun Gyarad)

DPZ-23 Gun Gyarad Released in 1990. The Ice Metal Protectors arranged on the neck, shoulders, limbs, and tail were reproduced in the kit with silver-plated parts. The Gull Wings (main wings) were molded as one-piece clear red parts for each side. The Pulse Cannon was structured to have the Hyper Charged Particle Cannon mounted above it, making its shape slightly different from the Pulse Cannon released separately as Grade-up Unit No.2. In both ground and flight forms, the limbs and mouth moved in coordination during walking. In ground form, when the raised upper body was lowered forward, the neck also moved simultaneously, transitioning to flight form. Powered by one AA battery, the battery box located at the tail base always maintained ground contact to assist walking. The main wings, tail, and Hyper Charged Particle Cannon could have their angles manually adjusted. The tail was designed to hold poses by friction against an internal cap.

Zoids Graphics Extra Issue EX.1 Gun Gyarad A reissue version released in 2008. Packaged with the special commentary booklet *Zoids Graphics*. Differences from the original version include the omission of the interpunct (・) in the name and the battery box being revised to a screw-fastened type.

Role in the Story (Gun Gyarad)

In the battle story, it first appeared intercepting the Republic Army’s dam destruction operation. Absorbing the dam’s entire energy output, it destroyed the pivotal Mad Thunder with a full barrage from all its guns. Subsequently, it defeated Orudios in aerial combat, then launched an assault on the Republic camp, annihilating the forces there including Gojulas [37].

However, a unit that headed to the base where the Republic was constructing its final-decision Zoid (King Gojulas) evaded attacks from defending Gojulas and Orudios Marine, and together with Gul Tiger discovered the true identity of that Zoid, after which contact was lost [31].

It also participated in defending the Dark Continent’s capital, where it fought against Orudios [38]. Afterwards, alongside Ice Blazer, it engaged King Gojulas, but both machines were destroyed by the Super Sound Blaster [39].
