During the Central Continent War, the Helic Republic Army developed the Allosaurus-type Zoid as the successor to the Godos[16][note 3]. Classified as a heavy armored assault mecha[20], it balanced thick armor with mobility[21]. It surpassed the Godos in agility[20] and boasted the best melee combat ability among Zoids of its class[16].

In the latter half of the Central Continent War, many units were deployed to various divisions[16], becoming the main force in assault units[22][note 4]. However, due to fierce battles and the Great Catastrophe of Planet Zi in ZAC 2056, it was nearly driven to extinction. As a result, in the Western Continent War, the Republic was forced to deploy many surviving old-type Godos. Still, unwilling to abandon the Arosaurer’s high combat ability and versatility, the Republic planned to preserve wild specimens and reproduce them through Zoid Core cultivation[16]. Mass production advanced as a next-generation main force unit[22]. Although most units were lost when Neo Zenebas forces invaded and destroyed research facilities, some survived — either old war remnants or those in other bases under preparation for deployment[22]. In ZAC 2106, they returned to the front lines in the war against Neo Zenebas, serving as support units for the Gojulas Giga[16].

Armament & Equipment

(Old) refers to Central Continent War era (Phase 1), (New) refers to the Second Intercontinental War era (Phase 2).

2-Barrel Beam Cannon (Old) / AZ105mm Twin Beam Cannon (New) Mounted on the back. Can also be used for anti-air or rearward attacks[20].

Flamethrower Mouth-mounted in Phase 1[17], mounted in the palms in Phase 2[22][16].

Smash Up Tail (New) The tail of the Arosaurer.

Kit

The kit is powered by a Hi-Power Unit, and, unusually for a wind-up powered Zoid, it possesses a walking gimmick that actively drives the knees and ankles via a linkage mechanism. In addition, as a linked gimmick, the forelegs swing up and down and the lower jaw opens and closes. As manual gimmicks, it has cockpit opening/closing (head, rear hinge), weapon rotation, and opening/closing of the foreleg fingers. In the old series, it was also the last wind-up driven Zoid among the bipedal dinosaur types.

Kit Description
RHI-8 Arosaurer White and black coloring.
RZ-067 Arosaurer Light blue and blue-green coloring.
FZ-009 Arosaurer Blue and silver coloring. Blue City Security Bureau version from Zoids Fuzors. A kit consisting of an Arosaurer with changed molding colors and stickers, bundled with a patrol light, released around late September 2004. Some media announced it under the product name “Z.A.C-09 Arosaurer PBS” prior to official release[24].

Role in Works

Battle Story

In July–December ZAC 2047, Captain Lewis, famed as an eccentric officer, piloted an Arosaurer and played a major role against the Imperial Army in “Operation Stove and Swallow”[19]. In January ZAC 2048, four units were transported by Ranforinx, and along with the commander unit Gabriele, attempted a surprise attack on the Death Bird base. However, all were annihilated by the waiting Death Shadow[25]. In October ZAC 2053, during the Gil Vader air raid on Helic City, it fought alongside the Bear Fighter (NEW)[26]. In early spring ZAC 2106, during the Cook Fortress offensive, the unit piloted by Due Eld was active. To protect the Gojulas Giga, whose movements had been restrained by an Imperial ambush, it challenged the Deathsaurer alone, sacrificing itself to open the path to the Deathsaurer’s defeat[18]. In spring ZAC 2106, a unit transporting supplies received from the Buster Eagle was destroyed by a Seismosaurus[27].

Anime

In Zoids Fuzors, Arosaurer units equipped with patrol lights (sold as kit “FZ-009 Arosaurer”) were deployed to the Blue City Security Bureau along with the Gojulas Giga and Gorlhex, appearing from Episode 1. In Episode 9, a Zoid theft gang also used a unit in the RZ coloring, which was customized with the CP-09 Booster Cannon Set on its back to improve acceleration and firepower.

Games

In the Famicom game Zoids 2: The Battle of Zenebas, it is given to the protagonist at the start of the game as the newest machine, serving as the early-game partner. In this game, unusually, it even has exclusive equipment. It also appears in Zoids Apocalypse. It also appeared in the PlayStation games ZOIDS: Empire vs Republic – Genetic Memory of Bio-Machines and ZOIDS2: Helic Republic vs Guylos Empire. In the PS2 version of Zoids Infinity: Fuzors, it appears as Chao’s unit, just like in the anime.
