King Liger

A lion-type Zoid that was active during the First Continental War. It excels in mobility and jumping ability, and specializes in close-quarters combat using the Laser Blades on its head. It is equipped with powerful defensive mechanisms, such as electromagnetic shield generators, which allow it to deflect enemy attacks. Due to its advanced information processing capabilities, it served as a leader machine for front-line and localized combat units[86].

After the magnetic storms caused by the Great Zi Planet Catastrophe in ZAC 2056, an environmentally adapted version of the unit was introduced in ZAC 2059[87].

• Mega Vulcan
  • Two vulcan cannons equipped on both sides of the head.
• Laser Blade
  • A close-combat blade located in the part corresponding to the lion's mane on the back of the head. It is equipped with a total of four blades, two on each side (two pairs).
• Beam Needle
  • A weapon at the tip of the tail. The tip has a needle-like shape, but the functional details are unknown.
• Electromagnetic Shield
  • An electromagnetic shield generator built into the shoulders of the four limbs.
• Active Radar
  • Radar located in the ears.
• Energy Accelerator
  • A device equipped on both flanks.
• Power Connector
  • A connector on the back for mounting upgrade units.

• To collect data on the Gilvader, it participated in a decoy operation with the Battle Cougar and Bear Fighter NEW. It was defeated by a direct hit from a Twin Mazer[88]. In another battle, it was engaged in a mission to discover the Gilvader's hiding place[89]. There is also a story where a King Liger that infiltrated a Black Challenger succeeded in its mission and destroyed several Dark Army units, only to be shot down by a Gilvader that appeared to intercept it[83]. When the Gigantis attacked the Central Continent, units of the King Liger were also seen fighting back[90]. In a battle where the Oldios was captured by a Death Saurer, it used its weapons to assist in the Oldios's escape[91]. In other battles, it can also be seen defeated by an invading Gilvader[92].

The Wing Rider is an upgrade unit developed to be equipped on the King Liger. This form enables short-distance flight with the glider, and the Wing Rider unit also enhances the Zoid's combat mobility and attack power[93][note 14]. However, when connected to Zoids other than the King Liger, it has the disadvantage of reduced flight distance[93].

An official name for this form equipped with the Wing Rider has not been established, and it is consistently referred to as “King Liger” in the battle stories[94].

• In February of ZAC 2054, a unit led by Colonel White, along with a Salamander F2 piloted by Second Lieutenant Roy G. Kruger, raided a Gilvader base, but they were defeated by the overwhelming power of the Gilvader[94].

An armed-enhanced version of the RPZ-15 King Liger. Its firepower has been increased with equipment such as Side Missile Pods and the 6-Barrel Acceleration Beam Gun. Although its maximum speed has decreased, its maneuverability has been improved by the Energy Accelerators, and it was active as a platoon commander unit for the Republic Army[95].

• Note: The following lists only the equipment added to the standard King Liger.
• 6-Barrel Acceleration Beam Gun
  • Two 3-barrel cannons equipped on the chest (throat).
• 3-Barrel Machine Gun
  • A 3-barrel machine gun equipped below the 6-Barrel Acceleration Beam Gun. The barrel length and caliber of the three barrels are all different.
• Side Missile Pod
  • A 4-barrel missile pod with a drum (cylindrical) shape, equipped on both flanks at the base of the Energy Accelerators.
• Flame Beam Gun
  • A 2-barrel weapon added to the top of the head.
• 3D Rear Radar
  • A rear radar built into the tip of the tail. There is no external difference from the standard version's tail tip.

• As a rescue unit, it rushed to a base of Gunblaster units that were in a difficult situation due to a Dark Army attack, and its Acceleration Beam Gun hit the Ice Blazer that had evaded the Oldios's attack. However, it was not able to destroy it and the enemy was allowed to escape[96].

Published in the July 2009 issue of Dengeki Hobby Magazine. This is a type of King Liger with an enhanced electromagnetic shield and acceleration thrusters installed on its back. In the example, four boosters are added to the back and two to the rear legs, but the accompanying design drawing shows four boosters with stabilizers on the back[97].
